RARE 19thC Porcelain Fois Gras Terrine - Deschandeliers Ruffec

A rare antique French fois gras lidded terrine, heavily made of substantial porcelain (likely by Limoges) and beautifully decorated with gilt bands and bold lettering, embellished with fine blue pinstripes.
Produced for prestigious Fois Gras and Truffle purveyor (or Fsseur - Fournisseur) Deschandeliers of Ruffec (Southwestern France), the face bears the phrase “Bréveté de S.M. L’Empereur” - Patent of His Majesty the Emperor.
Much like an English Royal Warrant, this phrase indicates that the maker was an official supplier or held a "patent" of appointment to the French Imperial Court, most commonly under Napoleon III during the Second French Empire (1852–1870), which will have been when this pot was made.
A significantly scarce and highly decorative offering, which has survived for more than 150 years in superb, undamaged condition! Advertisement signs and ephemera exist from the French company of Deschandeliers, but this appears to be the only recorded example of this particular pot.
The business was not just a producer of canned goods; it operated as a integrated hospitality and logistics enterprise centered around Ruffec’s position as a transit point.
The Railway Station Buffet: J.B. Deschandeliers famously managed the Buffet de la Gare (Railway Station Buffet). This was a strategic business move that allowed him to market his pâtés directly to travelers on all trains passing through the region.
Hôtel des Postes: The family also operated the Hôtel des Postes in Ruffec. This established them as key players in the town's hospitality sector, serving as a primary lodging for business travelers and postal carriers during the era of stagecoaches and early rail.
It is highly likely that this terrine was used in service at one of these two locations in Ruffec during the second half of the 19thC, as items like these were generally not sold containing produce to the public.
It is also fairly safe to assume that service items for the company were produced in very limited numbers, so unless there are any other examples hiding in a kitchen or attic in Southwestern France, it is likely the only survivor of its type left.

Condition:
Some wear to the gilt bands and lettering, particularly around the rim of the pot on the front side, and slightly over ‘Bréveté’. Otherwise perfect condition with no damage, just some light age related wear marks.
