Rare antique Marvor white ironstone ham stand
A scarce antique white ironstone ham stand, modelled with a pronounced rim to the top, flared pedestal foot and decorated with a bannered black registration transfer: “Marvor” Rd No. 780218.
Used by the turn of the century butcher or grocer to display their produce, white ironstone could be placed outside over night to chill before refrigeration was widespread, keeping cool throughout the day to prolong the freshness of meat and butter. This rare example has a pronounced rim with a shoulder on the flat surface, likely to accommodate a glass or mesh cloche placed over the top.
