Victorian Hovendens Bears Grease ironstone pot lid and base
A Victorian white ironstone pot lid, decorated with a beautiful black under glaze advertising transfer for ‘Hovenden’s Bears Grease - for the hair’.
A very decorative 19thC lid, the arched typography is hatch shaded, which is accompanied by the price of ‘6D’ in the middle and a fancy border around the rim. Matched with an antique marbled white ironstone base for display.
Dimensions:
7.5cm diameter
4.5cm tall
Condition:
There are some surface chips/scrapes on the lid, with a couple on the OV and D of ‘Hovenden’s’, along with one on the edge of the rim above the lettering. There is also a 2.5cm long chip on the underside of the flange, and a further bruise with a chip on the opposite side. There is also some age related wear, marks and crazing lines. The base has a small bruise on the rim, along with crazing and wear. Overall it still displays nicely and is an interesting example in honest condition.
