Early Herbert & Sons antique white ironstone ham stand
A rare 19thC white ironstone ham stand, decorated on one end with a belted roundel black transfer for Herbert & Sons of West Smithfield, London.
These large chunky ironstone stands were used by butchers and grocers to display and carve a large ham or leg of bone in meat, hence the name ham stand, but they now make for great antique display pieces, candlesticks, platter stands, centrepieces etc.
A heavy, early example from the late 19thC, it bears the early Herbert & Sons retailers transfer featuring the Victorian lion trademark in the centre of a belted roundel.
Approx dimensions:
18.5cm diameter
19.5cm tall
Condition:
There is a tiny bruise on the rim of the opposite end to the transfer, but it is barely noticeable and blends into the wear. There is also some age related wear, marks and staining, but no other damage and superb condition otherwise.
