Edwardian carved treen handle bread knife
An early 20thC bread knife, with a wooden handle carved with 'Bread' lettering and a steel blade engraved for Lockwood Brothers, Sheffield, which features their Ostrich Pampa trademark. Introduced in 1862 to combat German counterfeiting, the mark was phased out around 1919 when the company was acquired by Sheffield Cutlery Manufacturers.
These bread knives are often earlier blades fitted with later carved handles, but this one is genuine to the period and has all the correct patination and feel in the hand.
Approx dimensions:
33.5cm total length
21cm blade length
12.5cm handle length
Condition:
Some tarnish and wear to the blade commensurate with age and use. The handle is in nice condition with patination and wear. There is a small shrinkage split in the back side of the handle, but this does not overly detract.
