Antique French blue Veritable Moulle De Boeuf pot

Antique French blue Veritable Moulle De Boeuf pot

A rare 19thC French pot lid & base for Veritable Moelle De Boeuf (Real Beef Marrow). Heavily made of white ironstone, both the lid and base are decorated with a deep blue under-glaze pictorial transfer. The lid depicts a cow standing in a pasture, surrounded by a decorative border of alternating lozenges & diamonds which is repeated on the flange. The base is beautifully decorated all around with an alpine pastoral scene, with cows grazing among trees and cabins, the mountain ranges stretching off into the distance.

The underside of the foot bears the black Creil et Montereau L.M. & Cie maker’s mark.

Dimensions:

7.1cm diameter

5.8cm tall

Condition:

There is a tiny scrape on the underside of the flange on the lid, along with some staining and wear.

The pot base has some brownish staining around the rim, and there is a tiny bruise on the shoulder, along with some tiny nibbles/roughness around the rim

There is also a bruise on the underside of the foot, along with a chip/scrape. The pot still displays very nicely though and these do not overly detract.
